Alethiometer Oracle Deck Cards
For this project, I took the thirty-six symbols of the Alethiometer - a compass-like, truth-telling tool from Phillip Pullman’s His Dark Materials book trilogy - and reimagined them in my own style. Each symbol is representative of many layers of meaning, each somehow related to the symbol itself. The hourglass, for example, not only references to time, but it is mentioned that there is a skull perched atop of it, alluding to death. Change is the third meaning, relating to the nature of time and its incessant flow. In the books, one is able to ask a question of the Alethiometer and the answer is revealed by a needle pointing to a series of these symbols. The interpretation of these symbols, however, is up to the asker. I saw this format as an ideal format for an Oracle Deck - one could ask a question or seek guidance from the Alethiometer deck, and then pull one or more cards to reveal the answer.
Devin Belmain Logo Design
A series of logo and branding designs for Seattle-area photographer Devin Belmain. He wanted a design that would be bold, graphic, and memorable, while still being broadly applicable to the many different genres of photography he is employed for. I created the slashed bullet design, referencing the aperture and shutter of a camera.
Initial Logo & Business Card Design
The monograph logo was created out of my initials: CHP. I wanted to evoke a clean, geometric, minimalist aesthetic that exemplified the style that I bring through in my design and photography work.
